Welcome to J. Harding Armstrong Elementary School

John Mendes

Dear K-3 Parents,

It is that time of year when we need to prepare our students for outdoor play during colder temperatures and snowy conditions at recess time.  The general rule is that recess is outdoors unless the temperature drops below 20 degrees or the feels like temperature taking into account the wind chill drops below 20 degrees.  This means hats, gloves/mittens and a warm coat are needed.  When there is snow on the ground, children need boots and a change of footwear to use in school.  Little feet that are in boots all day, sweat too much.  When children are uncomfortable; they are not learning to their full potential!  Also, boots are not optimal for the gym floor and could potentially lead to an injury. If boots are forgotten, your child will be asked to stay out of the snowy/wet areas on the playground.
